Looking to buy porn clips direct from content creators?
Wondering where to sell your homemade videos to the biggest audience?
Adult video content services aren’t new and there are lots of platforms available where you can purchase exclusive or custom-made content direct from the stars themselves.
Since the coronavirus pandemic, these websites have grown in popularity as adult film stars and amateurs alike vie for customers.
Selling everything from pics and clips to subscriptions to social media channels, live shows and even physical goods like used lingerie and sex toys… there is a huge market for independent adult entertainers.
In this feature, we compare the two popular adult content selling platforms of ManyVids and Clips4Sale. We’ll look at the kinds of material for sale, who uses the sites and what kind of markets they cater to.
What is ManyVids?
ManyVids is a popular adult content sales platform where performers can upload their own pics and clips and sell directly to their fans.
In a similar way to OnlyFans, visitors to ManyVids can also follow their favorite adult stars and engage directly with their work in a more social way.
In turn, the models themselves can sell subscriptions, texting and phone services, physical goods and even launch crowdsourcing campaigns.
Achieving over 10.5 million monthly visits, ManyVids is ranked in the top 360 adult websites worldwide.
Whilst the majority of these visitors are from the United States, the site is also popular in Germany, Australia, United Kingdom and Canada.
Launched in 2014, the site is based in Montreal, Canada and has been given industry recognition, winning Clip Site of the Year at the 2018 XBiz Awards and granted the Global Web Brand of the Year Award in the 2019 XBiz Europa Awards.
What Kind of Content is Available on ManyVids?
The main sales generated through ManyVids are uploaded clips and pics created by independent models and performers.
These cover a wide range of genres from straight, gay and trans to fetish and more ‘vanilla’.
All content is tagged by the uploader and fans can search for content using advanced filters:
- Price Range
- Intensity (softcore, gentle, intense, rough and hardcore)
- Model Attributes (age, ethnicity, breast size or endowment)
- Video Format (AVI, MP4, WMV etc)
Note: There’s no support for adult VR content yet.
Users can also search using any number of popular keywords including some pretty niche ones.
Some content is only available to those users who have active and paid subscriptions and some is free or you might be able to get a preview before you buy.
Clip length also varies from a few minutes to 30+ minutes.
Prices on ManyVids
All content on ManyVids is priced by the individual content creator and can vary from as little as $3.99 up to $999.99!
However, most clips are sold in the price range of $10-$20 but you can also get some content for free.
Performers get to keep 80% of the revenue they generate through some services but this varies for other revenue streams such as clips sales and memberships which are paid at 60%.
What is Clips4Sale?
Based in Florida, US, Clips4Sale was one of the original direct-to-market adult content platforms and was originally launched in 2003.
Best known for its stable of fetish content creators, Clips4Sale has found itself a niche that sets it aside from its competitors. So much so that it has won several specialist awards over the last few years including:
- 2011 Venus Awards: Best Fetish Website
- 2014 XBIZ Awards: Fetish Site of the Year
- 2015 AVN Awards: Best Alternative Website
Ranked in the top 500 adult websites in the world (currently 350th), Clips4Sale receives monthly traffic figures of around 10.5 million hits per month.
With each visitor staying on the site for over 16 minutes and visiting around 6 pages each time, the stats show that Clips4Sale is ‘sticky’.
Having been in operation for so long, the site has a vast collection of content available and with more than seven million clips from over 100,000 creators they are one of the largest sites of its kind.
As well as being popular with audiences in the United States, Clips4Sale also receives visitors from across the world.
The site is most popular with Germans, Brits and Italians as well as neighboring Canadians.
What Kind of Content is Available on Clips4Sale?
Over the last seventeen years, Clips4Sale has evolved from a general adult content sales platform into a specialist fetish content site.
As a result, the material you can purchase through Clips4Sale is almost exclusively in the ‘kink’ category.
Covering a range of popular fetishes as well as some more niche genres, content is categorized in terms of its primary appeal. From female domination, handjobs and tickling to trampling, wrestling and ballbusting, there are thousands of keywords with which to tag clips.
Videos are uploaded by amateurs and professionals, each of whom open their own online ‘studio’ through which to sell their content.
Visitors can then use the site to search for clips using a keyword and then narrow results down using a selection of filters:
- Date Added
- Format (MP4, AVI, WMV etc)
- Resolution (SD, HD, UHD
- Length (Under 5 mins to over 30 mins)
- Price (Under $5 to over $100)
Content for sale on this site is only in clip format so as long as the video file is over two minutes in length then you can sell it here. However, the same company also operates three separate sister sites selling similar services to ManyVids:
- Images4Sale – Photo, pic and image sales site
- Videos4Sale – hard copy video sales sites for VHS and DVD feature length scenes/movies
- C4S Members – Streaming/cam video membership site
Again, and as with the Clips4Sale site, these platforms deal almost exclusively in fetish content.
Prices on Clips4Sale
Prices are set for content by the individual content creator/owner and vary from as little as a few bucks to over $100.
Revenue is split 60/40 in the store owner’s favor.
ManyVids vs Clips4Sale: Which Is Best?
If you are performer looking to sell your clips online through an adult content sales platform then there isn’t much to separate ManyVids and Clips4Sale.
There are, however, some subtle differences.
Firstly, if your content is kink or fetish related then although ManyVids does cater for this (see MV Fetish), Clips4Sale certainly has the edge.
They are well-known for this kind of content and advertise on related websites which should help generate suitable traffic.
Clips4Sales is also a simpler option if you are only looking to sell clips.
If you aren’t interested in diversifying your passive income generation with additional services then the site is perfect. And if, at a later stage, you also want to sell pics then the site can offer the facility through Images4Sale.
The two sites share a similar profile when it comes to audience volumes and are ranked pretty much neck and neck in terms of global traffic. Visitors also come from similar geographic regions.
If, however, you are looking to partner with a content sales site that offers you the opportunity to engage more with your audiences then you might want to opt for ManyVids.
Offering fans more ways to subscribe to exclusive content including the ability to ‘Follow’ stars in a way similar to social media, the site is perfect for building engagement, rewarding loyalty and really building up a solid fan base.
In all reality, there is nothing to stop you from setting up a studio/store on both sites but this will take some extra time to manage.
Just remember though that if you are selling something ‘exclusively’ on one platform you can’t sell it on the other.
As a fan, we have the same advice!
Both platforms offer access to some great content but if you want to get closer to your favorite performers then ManyVids might be the better option but there is no reason why you can’t use both.
If you have a penchant for an unusual fetish then Clips4Sale might be the best place to start but for those more ‘traditional’ and mainstream kinks, ManyVids will also be able to sate your appetite.
When it comes down to it, we couldn’t separate these two great adult content sales sites so in a break from the normal recommendation we might make here, we would call this one an honorable tie.
Why choose one, when you can have them both?
