In this review, we take a closer look at the Vision industry Token and whether or not, 18 months on from its launch, you really can get paid to watch porn.
What is a Vision Industry Token (VIT)?
Issued on the Ethereum platform, the Vision industry Token is a new crypto currency that was officially launched in June 2018 as a way of changing the way the porn industry is monetized.
In short, it is a form of digital money where each token has a value which varies according to the exchange rates of the day.
Why Create The Vision Industry Token?
Traditionally, the porn industry has made its money by selling content to its customers. A simple supply and demand model, the studios churned out movies and we bought them. However, all this has changed over the last decade in a race to the bottom as the internet has brought about an era of free porn. With so much amateur content available and studios having to offer free material, there is a thinner and thinner slice of the action which companies are fighting for.
The solution to this for many website owners was to monetize their sites using revenue from ads. Sounds like a simple solution doesn’t it? Audiences get to watch as much free porn as they like and a site gets stuffed with ads and pops ups. The problem is that this method simply isn’t working.
Customers aren’t engaging with these ads, installing blocking software and (all too often) these pop ups aren’t actively being tailored to the people who are supposed to be watching them. Vision Industry, the brains behind the Vision industry Token (VIT) are all too aware of the current paradigm and the need for change. Their vision was to develop a currency that could be earned and spent within the adult industry which rewarded audiences for actively engaging with content.
The theory is that by showing a level of interest in videos, clips and blog posts using comments, upvotes and other social activity responses, content becomes king again. The result is that people get paid for watching and engaging with porn content and the producers are incentivized to produce high-quality material.
Being referred to as the ‘Attention Economy’, founder of the Vision industry Token and CEO Stuart Duncan said:
“People’s attention is a valuable and scarce resource…..the (VIT) platform upends the ad-driven commercial model to capitalise on the new ‘Attention Economy’, permitting porn publishers to actively engage with viewers by rewarding them with VIT for their genuine attention and authentic engagement.’
Of course, this isn’t the first attempt by entrepreneurial businesses looking for an industry specific currency and the likes of Bitcoin Adult (BTAD) and Xhoneybadger (XHB) have all hit the exchanges over the last few years.
How Much is a Vision Industry Token (VIT) Worth?
So, what is the current exchange rate of the VIT? Well, as of 12th January 2020, you would need 4024 VIT to exchange for $1 (USD). This means a single VIT is worth $0.00024837
At the peak of its limited life on the exchanges so far, the value of the VIT peaked at $0.118245 which meant you only needed 9 VITs to exchange for a dollar.
By contrast, you would need $8,147 (USD) to purchase a single Bitcoin. It’s early days of course and though the VIT is currently ranked 4,453 on the global crypto currency exchanges, all new crypto currencies take some time to become established. The key, of course, is embedding their use within an industry.
Making Money With The Vision Industry Token (VIT)
To earn VIT you will need to register a wallet and then you can start watching porn by the VIT tube site or engaging with content on those sites that are registered as part of the affiliate network of VIT sites.
According to the ‘Richlist’ on the VIT Tube site, the top ten earners currently have balances of between 2.3 billion VIT and 5 million VIT. At the current exchange rates, this means the top accounts are worth an estimated $591k to $1.4k.
Most of the 8,000+ accounts listed on this list are worth well below these figures with anything under the top 100 being worth just $5 (21,750 VIT).
Of course, if the exchange rate improves then the value of these accounts could feasibly go through the roof…potentially.
At the launch of the VIT, several high-profiles sites were signed up as token affiliates and who had made plans to monetize the content on their site using this currency. Several large adult platforms also committed their intention to follow suit but it is unclear exactly which sites have opted in and, of those, which are successfully managing payments to their users in VIT.

So, after you’ve earned all this adult currency where can you spend it?
Value of the Vision Industry Token
Firstly, as with any crypto currency, all tokens earned and banked in your online wallet can be sold on a digital exchange and swapped for any other currency. As long as there is a buyer interested in your VIT then you could sell them for USD, Bitcoin or other altcoin/currency. The problem at the moment is that the Vision Industry Token is still to reach a viable value compared to other currencies. As we said already, you’d need to earn around 4,000 tokens to make the equivalent of a dollar.
Spending VIT
The theory is that all of those adult sites listed above will accept VIT in exchange for their premium services (or at least offer a discount). In addition, there are some other sites where VIT is supposed to be accepted as payment, this includes the popular adult 3D game Red Light Center as well as premium porn sites under the Darkreach Communications network which includes the Stormy Daniels website.
So, Is The Vision Industry Token Worth Adopting?
Whilst the ideas and ethos behind the VIT are undoubtedly sound, the application and uptake of this initiative seems to have well and truly fallen flat on its face…..so far.
After the initial media frenzy that followed the idea from Initial Coin Offering (ICO) to full launch, the VIT project seems to have stalled. Yes, you can still earn tokens for engaging with, and watching, porn content but there doesn’t seem to be much value to this currency in the current markets. Whilst this could change and those sitting on piles of VIT could become overnight millionaires, it looks as though there is still plenty of work to do in getting the industry to adopt a change in the way it’s being monetized.
Whilst we all agree that the current landscape of an infinite supply of free porn is an unsustainable one for ethical and quality content, VIT isn’t the silver bullet people thought it might be. At least not yet anyway.
It might be back to the drawing board for a while but we believe that VIT is just the start of what could be a revolution in the industry. For the time being, sadly, you can’t quit your day job just yet.
